Network’s presence in African continues to grow
Network positioned to help clients seize new opportunities and build a bolder tomorrow.
Baker Tilly International has expanded its African footprint by adding Ugandan firm Mgi Hem & Thakkar LLP to our network. They join Baker Tilly Merali’s local East African network, and will commence trading as Baker Tilly with immediate effect.
A strong player in the local audit market, alongside the provision of the more traditional service lines of audit, tax and accounting, Mgi Hem & Thakkar LLP provides additional services in the form of business intelligence consultancy through Microsoft Power BI and AI tools, project finance, internal audit and HR recruitment services. The firm has ambitions to further develop these and grow into new service lines to meet the changing needs of clients.
“I am delighted with this ongoing broadening of our capabilities within our growing African region,” said Ted Verkade, Baker Tilly network CEO.
“In recent years, our network has strengthened its position in the region through the appointment of new firms that have brought new capabilities to key markets. This growth, in addition to strong and consistent organic growth, has resulted in our network breaking into the IAB Top 10 rankings for the first time in Africa this year. With a footprint in Uganda, we can continue this growth trend, which, in turn, will open the brand to new international opportunities, particularly in natural resources and Government and Not-for-Profit (GNfP).
“The leadership of Mgi Hem & Thakkar LLP represents an ambition that is aligned with the level of ambition in our network. The firm’s views towards growth into new services is encouraging and their attitude to welcome change through best practice and learning is refreshing.”
Madhav Bhandari, Managing Partner of Baker Tilly Merali’s said: “Baker Tilly Merali’s and Mgi Hem & Thakkar LLP have worked together successfully on numerous engagements, and I am delighted to be cementing our relationship and the strong collaboration between our firms more formally by welcoming them into our East African network. I am excited to work alongside them and grow a practice that remains responsive and committed to quality. The fit is excellent and can only get better developing niche products for our international clients.”
Manjit Kothari, Managing Partner of Mgi Hem & Thakkar LLP added: “We are extremely pleased to be part of the Baker Tilly network, both locally here within Africa and globally. Being part of a globally recognised brand and the international relationships, capabilities and support that brings, will allow us to continue to build a structure that support our clients now, as they build for their tomorrow.”
